CNY meh?...

I am quite confusing why Chinese New Year (CNY) is a must to gather a bunch of people together?

This is a question always keep in my mind.

Therefore, I comes out some answers:

-Oh yeah, is time to meet those cousins are live far away.
-Maybe we just need a reason to catch up during CNY.
-Or just because we need to follow the trend.
-To say something good in order to get "angpau" (I totally agree this)

Well, I am quite enjoy during CNY because I can heard some interesting story from my cousins. But the most surprise me is my grandma's story. I love my grandma but I always could not get closer to her because I am studying in Kuala Lumpur. My hometown is Malacca.

How I get into her story is when the first day of CNY, normally my grandma always cook delicious dishes and asked us to enjoy it. For that moment, I usually will sitting in the crowd and scrolling my phone but this year I am keep chase her about the story because of this assignment. She also feeling shocked.

My grandma is origin Hakka and I am Hakka too. But I am not so talented into that language (I not sure isn't use this word?). She is smart to understand me speaking in Mandarin. So my first question comes to her is, "Grandma can share with me about your story? Something that keep deeply in your mind." Her responds was smile with warm face.

"I born in China. I am living in poor family. I am been sold by parents at 9 years old. I am started to work as "meizi" (Hakka) *I think is maid* in a big family. I have to wash clothes, cooking, cleaning and take care 4 babies in the big family. Until I 19 years old, I met a guy (My Grandpa) *awwww* that we love each other and he promise to bring me come over Malaysia. Years passed, we took boat and after 10 days we finally reached Malacca, Malaysia. We have begin our new life with one small shop and now I am grateful that I have 7 children with their lovely family."

What comes out to my mind is? How good is life. There is always ups and downs in everyone's life. I hope I also can share some story to my grandchild same as my grandma's one.
